The game recreates small unit combat from the Second World War to the modern day. Players can command German, Italian, French, United States, U.K., Russian Federation and Chinese forces in a wide range of missions. There is a selection of pre-built scenarios, but the core of the games is the option to design your own army. The 'Force Builder' system in Company Commander allows for the customisation of a reinforced company to tackles a wide range of Missons on across a selection of different battlefields.
In the modern age the game introduces a whole new range of challenges, from drones and drone swarms to extremely deadly 'smart' weapons, but also a new layer of resource management. There is no endless supply of hyper-expensive weaponry.
